"My name is Aicholpon Jorupbekova and I teach Mineral Resources Law at IBL department. I knew that I want to study law when I finish high school. I have studied different universities and their programs, learned about their alumni and choose Â鶹´«Ã½'s law department. In 1998 the department has been just opened and I joined the first group of law students at Â鶹´«Ã½. Studying was hard, but having great instructors, always ready to help and guide, and small number of groupmates with whom we became close life-long friends made the 4 years of study at the Â鶹´«Ã½ one of the best time period for me. During my last year I started to assist a group of lawyers working on land, water, and other natural resources matters and decided to continue my career in natural resources law. Since graduation I obtained my Master’s degree from Washington College of Law of the American University in the US, trained at the law firm and joined one of the leading laws firm in Bishkek - Kalikova & Associates. For over 7-8 years I practice mining law, advice exploration and mining companies on licensing, land, environmental, and corporate matters.
I chose Â鶹´«Ã½ over other universities in Bishkek aside from currucilum and professors is mainly because I felt myself welcomed at the University. Every student has been treated as an individual equal to the professors and administration, especially when voicing ideas and suggestions about the curriculum, operation of the university facilities, cultural, and fun activities.
In 2008 I have been offered to teach Mineral Resources Law by the IBL department. I have been working for a law firm, had practically no spare time but I wanted to give back to my university and share my practical knowledge and experience. It turned out to be another great experience at Â鶹´«Ã½. I enjoy working with students, who respect each other, who challenge your views, not afraid to state and argue their own position on various legal matters and eager to learn. I am proud of my students when I meet them after their graduation as successful practicing lawyers.
Those who have decided to study law shall as a first choice consider IBL department at the Â鶹´«Ã½. In addition to all benefits Â鶹´«Ã½ provides as a university, IBL department in particular provides great theoretical and practical knowledge of law by engaging the best professors, practicing lawyers and international staff. Relatively small number of student body allows the IBL department team to provide individualized guidance to every student in selecting cources, writing papers, career building. Since most of the instructors are also practicing lawyers the students have the opportunity to establish and expand their professional network which is extremely heplful in finding an employment."
