This spring semester the General Education Department features a couple of courses that test an alternative approach to the educational event of “fieldwork” led by Professor Natalya Khokholova. After visiting the Historical Museum’s Scythian Gold Exhibit for the course of Russia’s Orient, many students shared in their journal entries that they believe it is important to be able to read into the artistic symbols of ancient craftsmanship in order to understand the main trends in modern inter-cultural aesthetics in light of post-colonial studies.
For students enrolled in the Science Fiction course, the fun and educational experience at the Tropical Butterflies exhibit was an inspiration for writing Sci-Fi genre fiction of their own.
