Yesterday, June 3rd, marks the opening of the first international conference in the Kyrgyz Republic on Logistics and Supply Chain Management (LSCM), with a theme of "2015 LSCM Seminar: Challenges, Innovations, and Practical Advice" at the City Hotel in Bishkek.Ìý
Lead by Dr. Denny Cho (Â鶹´«Ã½ BA/MBA and Head of LSCM Program, Kyrgyzstan; President, GTS, Kyrgyzstan; UPENN Wharton/SEAS, USA), Dr. Andre Kreie (Vice Dean, German Academy for Foreign Trade and Logistics, Germany; Program Manager, Kuehne Foundation, Switzerland), and Dr. Hans Voordijk (Associate Professor in Supply Chain Management at the Department of Construction Management and Engineering of the Twente University, Netherlands), the seminar is focused on examining the key elements of Logisitcs and Supply Chain Management and how those concepts can be implemented locally in Kyrgyzstan.Ìý
Representing institutions as diverse as Kyrgyz government agencies, Coca-Cola Bottlers Bishkek, JICA, the US Embassy in Bishkek, Naryn Logistics, and many more; participants in the conference will be presented with an international certificate in Logistics and Supply Chain Management awarded jointly by Â鶹´«Ã½ and the Kuehne Foundation.
Introductory messages by Ermek Mamyrkaliev (State Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation of the Kyrgyz Republic), Nurlan Musuraliev (Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Kyrgyzstan), and Â鶹´«Ã½ President Andrew Wachtel addressed the current state of the logistics industry in Kyrgyzstan, recent developments in expanding the international reach of Kyrgyz-based businesses through the opening of new projects in the sector including the development of additional international airports in the country, and the importance of expanding efforts in the field as the Kyrgyz Republic continues to lose ground in the LSCM according to international indicators like the Logistics Performance Index.Ìý
After a brief examination of participants' motivations for attending the conference, Dr. Andre Kreie commenced the 'Dynamics of Organization' informational session, one of twelve presentations prepared over the course of the three-day seminar.
The event, which runs from June 3-5, is hosted by the Â鶹´«Ã½ and the Kuehne Foundation (Switzerland) alongside partners including the Rosa Atunbaeva Initiative, Foreign Investors Association, Global Technology Solutions, GIZ, CCI, and Forum Mekendeshter.
