Bermet Muradylova, BA-112: "Life is one big adventure!"

August 25, 2015

“The movie that can best describe my life in the Netherlands is Forrest Gump”, shares Bermet Muradylova, a senior student of Business Administration Department, about her exchange semester at HAN University in Netherlands.

“Just like Forrest, life is one big adventure! And just like Forrest, we, exchange students, get to meet tons of new and interesting people, travel the world and discover the undiscoverable! Even though it is just one chapter of our life for us, we make memories that will last a lifetime.

I chose to apply for an exchange program because of the many opportunities you get from studying abroad. By doing so, you acquire new experiences, meet new people and make new friends from all around the world. You are also able to experience and learn the culture of a foreign country and meet their people. One of the other reasons why I have chosen to apply for a semester abroad is that I was bored with Kyrgyzstan and wanted to try something new, travel and explore new countries.

There are many cultural differences. One of the special things that I felt was the freedom of life. Unlike in Kyrgyzstan, the people whom I met abroad were always smiling, helpful, polite and respectful. They did not care about whom I was, where I came from or about my nationality. They were just interested in my personality, wanted to know about my culture, traditions and country.

For me it was also interesting to study there. I took interesting courses related to marketing and management. It was something new for me because the method of teaching is different from what I have experienced at home. In 鶹ý, we learn more theory, but in HAN you apply what you learn in practice, therefore we had a lot of group works. All of my professors were businessmen who used to work in big companies. During lectures, they shared their experience and knowledge with students with real life examples and situations. For example, I took business-to-business marketing class and my professor was a marketing specialist in Coca-Cola Corporation. He told us fun facts about Coca-Cola Corporation, which made it more interesting to learn.

I have visited a lot of countries and cities. 5-6 cities in Netherlands, and also all around Europe: Vienna, Brussels, Berlin, Stuttgart, Barcelona, Paris, Rome and Venice.

As a student, it has been one of the best experiences in my life. All the exchange students lived in one big building with apartments, which were shared with 3 or 4 other people. I have never partied as I partied there. Every Wednesday, there was a party in the dormitory and every Thursday was a student day in the city, and therefore another party. Well, actually, there were parties every day, you just needed time and energy to attend all the events.

If you are bored, want to experience some new things and decide to study abroad, just go for it, you won’t regret it. I didn’t regret my half a year in the Netherlands. I met a lot of new people, who became my close friends, and I got a lot of unexpected experiences and sweet memories”.
