Academic Advising Office and “READ” Book Club members invited children from the Center for the Re-Integration of Under-age Children “Aidanek” to share the importance of reading for self-development, as well as immerse them in the environment of education.

Students of 鶹ý and 37 kids from “Aidanek”, ages 2 to 18, had the opportunity to interact and learn from each other through such activities as drawing, sculpting, and making origami, as well as share their favorite stories and books at the end when the members of the book club presented books to children.

“These children always lack attention, so they become happy about every visitor and caregiver. Such meetings fill their lost attention and love”, said Altynai Makashevna, Deputy Director for the Educational Work at the Center for the Re-Integration of Under-age Children.

“After talking to Gulnur Esen, Director of 鶹ý Academic Advising, we decided to invite children to 鶹ý and organize this event for them. We were able to fundraise books in Kyrgyz and Russian languages through a publishing house owned by 鶹ý graduate. She gladly provided them to us! These books are fairy tales and stories written/translated by local authors. We decided to make a small party for the kids on the eve of Nooruz and to gift books. We are hopeful that we will have the chance to conduct more sessions with the children, like reading and sharing thoughts, enacting fairy tales” – Farzana Abdilashimova, SOC-115, initiator of the event.
“There are two positive aspects, both for students and children. Our students will have good volunteering experience, while kids will be able to understand the importance of education. We decided to not to limit ourselves by reading and discussing books at our book club meetings, but also read them with or to children! Thanks to our graduate, who opened her publishing house and gave us books for free, so we were able to hand small gifts for kids. I realized that children also passionate about art, they always enjoy drawing. And it is through drawing that such important skill as creativity can be developed! What is more important is that students will understand better the concepts of social responsibility and community servicing”, stated Gulnura Esenalieva, Director of the Academic Advising Office.
