The World Congress of the Global Partnership for Young Women, sponsored by UN Women, was held on August 10-14 in Seoul, South Korea. The event was attended by over 500 representatives from 33 countries of Asia and Africa. The competition featured more than 160 teams, and participants were challenged to create solutions to the problem of gender inequality in line with the goals of the Millennium Development Goals.
Â鶹´«Ã½ alumni Cholpon Alymbekova, Cholpon Chargynova, and Eldar Supataev won first place in the Gender Category, highlighting the theme of bride kidnapping, and offering analysis of problems and effective solutions. Due to the fact that 2012 was the Year of Family in Kyrgyzstan, the contestants chose bridenapping to promote voluntary and peaceful ways of creating and planning a family, avoiding theft and violence.
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon attended the ceremony, highlighting the importance fo gender issues for successfully developing countries.
